In partnership with fortune 500 companies, the Girl Scouts of North Texas have created a 14M Stem Living Lab addressing the needs of 24,000 young women. Join GSNTX CEO Jennifer Bartkowski , industry experts and members of our recently announced Women in IoT Center of Excellence to discuss how they are utilizing this IoT / 5G infrastructure living lab for everything from Healthcare 2.0, Industrial 4.0, Smart Buildings, Smart Cities, Smart Energy, and Smart Agriculture. This panel will also address the pressing need for early development of STEM activities, the impact on the future workforce pipeline and how you and your company can get involved.

Ms. Nancy Shemwell, is currently serving as the Chief Operating Officer of IoT Community, the largest global IoT industry thought leader association. A three-time Chief Executive Officer, she recently served as the Chief Executive Officer of entegra technologies, inc., recruited to migrate this early stage, ruggedized tablet company to provider of fully integrated portfolio of cyber security solutions for mission critical, industrial control systems (ICS). With a 20-year track record of driving high performance transformational global organizations, Ms. Shemwell has been Ranked #93 in ExecRank’s Top CSO Rankings” from 15,000 Chief Sales Officers and C-Level executives in the United States, she has also been recognized as a Finalist for 2015 D CEO M&A of the Year Award, Semi-finalist, 2018 Emerging Technology Tech Titan CEO of the Year and named a 2018 Phenomenal Women by Texas Wall Street Women. Ms. Shemwell has previously held a variety of senior positions with global business responsibilities including assignments in Europe and North America. Her experience covers a broad spectrum of general management, sales and marketing roles in rapidly developing markets. Previous positions include that of Chief Operating Officer and owner of DataSpan, President and CEO of Multi-Link, President and CEO Jovial Test Equipment, EVP Extreme Networks, EVP at Symmetricom and a 16 year career with Nortel Networks where she held titles of President, Micom Communications Corporation (a Nortel subsidiary), Vice President Business Segments, Vice President Sales and Marketing Wiltel (Nortel’s largest enterprise distributor) and Director Marketing for Europe, Middle East and Africa. Ms. Shemwell holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Baylor University and a Master of Science in Business Administration from Texas A&M. She was named to the VoodooVox, Inc. (VVX – TSX) Board of Directors in 2006, and the NTXRCIC in 2012. Ms. Shemwell also serves as the Chair of the entegra technologies Board of Advisors, appointed in 2018 to the Board of Advisors of IoT Communities, a 22,000-member global IoT industry association. Ms. Shemwell also serves on the Associate Board at the SMU Cox School of Business and is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors and Women Corporate Directors.
Jennifer Bartkowski serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas. Ms. Bartkowski has been with GSNETX since 2009 and served as Chief Development Officer and Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer before assuming the role of CEO. Today, Jennifer is leading an organizational transformation for the organization. With a strategic focus on membership growth, 21st century programming and brand, Jennifer is committed to ensuring that Girl Scouts is relevant to today’s girl and her parents. With a commitment to changing the workforce pipeline of North Texas, Jennifer chairs a national STEM initiative that was built on the success of Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas’ $14M STEM Center of Excellence in southwest Dallas. This 92 acre campus is a living laboratory for girls to explore science, technology, engineering and math. Today, the STEM Center serves as a 21st century program facility for 4,000 local Girl Scouts, as a field trip destination for students throughout North Texas and as a model for the Girl Scout movement. Before joining Girl Scouts in 2009, Jennifer served as the Senior Vice President of Workplace Campaigns for United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, responsible for leading an annual campaign of more than $50 million. Jennifer’s career began after receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Public Administration, with a nonprofit management focus, at Texas A&M University. She has worked with a variety of organizations including the American Lung Association of Texas, United Way/Capital Area, private start-up Charitygift, and as an independent consultant. Jennifer is a graduate of Leadership Dallas, Class of 2016, and is an active member of the Leadership Dallas Alumnae Board. She is also a board member and passionate advocate for Carson’s Village. Jennifer is the recipient of the Dallas Business Journal’s 2017 Women in Business Award and was proud that Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas was recognized in 2016 as the Nonprofit of the Year by Dallas-based CNM Connect. Jennifer is the mother of two children, and is the proud recipient of the Girl Scout Silver Award as well as the Girl Scout Thanks Badge, recognizing her outstanding achievements as an adult member of Girl Scouts.
Michele Null – global marketing leader in the IoT Division at SAS, (WIoTCoE, Future of IoT Pillar of Excellence Leader) is an evangelist for artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things, promoting the importance of a robust analytics lifecycle to drive valuable outcomes in IoT initiatives across industries. Michele and her team play an important role in growing SAS in the world of IoT. She is focused on collaborating with the commercial business development team to identify, further develop, and amplify strategic partnerships. She works closely with customers and partners to understand market requirements and then works in conjunction with product management and R&D to ensure technology and solutions meet key market needs and will help drive business value. Michele enjoys being an active member of leading IoT consortiums including the Industrial Internet Consortium, the IoT Community and RIoT. After graduating from the University of Virginia, Michele began her journey in the technology field, which has spanned nearly 20 years. Prior to joining SAS in 2014, Michele held various roles during her tenure at IBM including product management, product marketing and program management.
Brenda Boehm is a senior executive who has made her career by bringing next generation Networks, Information Systems, Cloud, and Security technologies to the emerging global marketplace. Brenda’s deep industry expertise is based upon her successful leadership roles at both the executive and board levels with various innovation-focused technology companies from entrepreneurial start-ups: Starent Networks, Tango Networks, and Cyphre to Fortune 100 leaders: Cisco, Nortel, Alcatel-Lucent and Nokia. This uniquely broad set of experiences and skills have equipped her with the insight to create a market vision that recognizes industry disruption, an ability to harness change for innovation, develop global market reach and ensure the most successful operational best practices. As her passion is with emerging technologies, she has been recently focused on the capabilities of the various opportunities that Internet of Things creates, with the support of edge computing, the required foundational security, and potential blockchain technologies. Brenda Boehm holds a MS from SMU’s School of Engineering in Telecommunications and a Bachelors (BA) in Computer Information Systems (CIS) from the University of Louisiana. She also attended Stanford’s prestigious Graduate School of Business Executive Program, and their Advanced Computer Security Cert. Additionally, Brenda is attending the Carnegie Mellon CISO cert with completion planned for February 2019. In addition to her leadership in the IT / Telecommunications industry, Brenda is active in promoting women in technology, mentoring programs, and STEM initiatives. She feels strongly that it is also critical to support and mentor the nextgenerations in order to support a strong diverse workforce, and consequently, a more successful company with an overall globally healthy economy. She was recognized by Dallas Business Journal as a nominee of Women in Tech for 2015, and serves on advisory panels to promote women in technology.
Dr. Brenda Connor, Director of IoT Enterprise Services, Ericsson North America; has been with Ericsson since 1994 and is providing thought leadership in Smart Cities, Intelligent Transport Systems, IOT/M2M and Business Enablement. Connor creates new business through innovative and transformative approaches focused on diverse stakeholder needs. She provides leadership in bridging stand-alone systems into system of system architectures including cloud and public private partnerships. Connor is a change maker for the Networked Society, where every individual and every industry is enabled to reach its true potential. Connor holds a B.S. and a M.S in Computer Engineering from Boston University, a PhD in Engineering Management and has submitted 5 patents in the open ecosystem space.
Taly Walsh serves as Executive Director of Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to recruiting, retaining and advancing women in the field of cybersecurity. Taly is a creative, strategic business leader with extensive experience in the non-profit arena. She previously held positions as Vice President of Marketing and Events at the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA); Senior Vice President of Membership and Marketing at InfoComm International (the trade organization for the audiovisual industry); Director of Communications with Thomson Financial leading marketing for a biometrics conference; and Director of Communications for Public Technology, Inc., a non-profit organization promoting technology R&D in state and local governments. Taly is a fun-loving, down-to-earth and roll-up-your-sleeves executive with a passion for promoting women in the workforce. She enjoys painting, hiking, yoga, learning and reading.
