This presentation introduces IoT Engineering (IoTE), defined as the practical application of a systematic, disciplined, quantifiable approach to the analysis, design, construction, operations, and maintenance of IoT solutions. IoTE is a holistic engineering framework focusing on 4 integral parts: Context, Application, ROI, and Lifecycle (CARL). We will walk through the concept and motivation of the CARL components and the subcomponents in each individual area. Then we will dive deep to the IoT Lifecycle model to cover the elements of Define, Design, Develop, and Deliver (4D) in the end-to-end process. Working examples will be discussed in great details to illustrate the pragmatic use of IoTE in real-world initiatives. In addition, we will delve into a case study, along with best practices and lessons learned in the enterprise implementations.
