Session Abstract:

IoT is as strong as the strength of its weakest link. The failure of even one component or subsystem renders the application inadequate, vulnerable and potentially dangerous. The warning signs are piling up from oil refineries compromised by menu links to the Chinese restaurant next door to smart homes publishing security video publicly on YouTube. Security and privacy are foundational concerns in IoT and must be addressed across the foundational fabric on which we deliver IoT solutions. Lessons learned from the evolution of Cloud, particularly across the enterprise space, privacy, data management, regulations, and protecting against cyber threats teach us that silo-ed point solutions do not scale and can actually increase the threat landscape in the distributed and heterogeneous systems that mark IoT. We literally cannot afford to treat security as an afterthought when the world is connected and interdependent.

This panel will help to define the following concerns:

  • What are the effective techniques for providing a data and system protection
  • What are the critical vulnerabilities and how do we deal with them
  • What are compliance strategies for the broad spectrum of enterprise and consumer markets.
  • What is a foundation for seamlessly and securely connecting devices, delivering trusted data to the cloud, and delivering value through analytics?
