Session Abstract:

For the first time ever, VUEMED and Impinj will present on their pioneering partnership to bring RAIN RFID technology solutions to their healthcare clients. RAIN RFID is a wireless technology that connects billions of everyday items to the Internet, enabling businesses and consumers to identify, locate, authenticate, and engage each item. In the healthcare space, VUEMED and Impinj have joined forces to use RAIN RFID to wirelessly connect and network clinical inventory and assets to software applications such as ERP systems and inventory management systems. By tagging medical products and devices (or helping manufacturers tag their products) with standards-compliant Ultra High Frequency (UHF) passive Gen2 RFID tags – which are encoded with all of the unique pedigree information about a product – products are then recorded and “born” in the cloud. With UHF RFID being adopted throughout the healthcare supply chain industry, we now have the IoT for medical devices: from the point of being tagged to the point of care, each individual product is recorded in the cloud, as well as every event and location associated with it; the chain of custody is always known. Plus, now there is never any doubt as to which products are on the shelves; inventory management is automated. A key component of this new RFID technology is that it is all hands-free and in real time. There is no need for nurses to scan products. VUEMED and Impinj will illustrate how applying an IoT approach to the age-old problem of medical supplies, devices and medication management enables hospitals and manufacturers to avoid waste and save money, track recalled and expiring devices instantly, achieve optimal par levels due to better predictive analysis, and attain near perfect patient records due to the extreme accuracy of the data, among many other benefits. Compliance, visibility and traceability are the key advantages that RAIN RFID technology offers. Hospitals and manufacturers can now identify the exact location, value, specifics and usage of all of their medical supplies and products at all times, thereby dramatically improving clinical outcomes, point of use information, and integration of data into other systems.
